Welcome To Our "Success Stories" Page!

The horses on this page sold at Billings Livestock Commission Company and we couldn't be prouder!  A good "fit" is important between horse and rider - we work hard to provide the sale venue that allows the sellers to show their horses and a place where the buyers can feel comfortable buying a horse.  The following "Success Stories" are a tribute to both the buyers and sellers! Do you have a success story? We want to hear from you - Achievements and success stories about the horses and the people who bought them here at Billings Livestock! I'm waiting to hear YOUR story!

At BLS, "We like horses".

Text the word Billings to 313131 to receive our latest text notifications!

THANK YOU!!

A true compliment to our BLS consignors who bring us those great horses! It's fun to hear of the success others are having with horses they have purchased from our BLS customers - Thanks for sharing! Read on:

Can't believe it has been three years.  Shotgun N Pep certainly found a great home.  They love him and still talk about how nice he is.  My write up on him at the ale said something to this effect - this horse is peculiar.  You need to come talk to me.  Well, he was, and is, and they still really like him.  When selling horses, it is of upmost importance to be honest.  He found his perfect fit and made both buyer and seller very happy.  Thank you, Billings Livestock Horse Sales for your part in this sale.

Terry Moroney & " Chico " Gale Moroney & "Spanky"
Dear Jann – we bought two horses from your sales – one in October 2015 and the other in October 2017. We want to thank you and tell you that we are very impressed with the quality of Billings Livestock Commission Horse Sales. You are very helpful, pleasant, and professional. Jann, you gave us excellent guidance both times with both horses. We followed your advice and it worked out very well for us.
1. Get there ahead of time.
2. Really take our time to look at the horses and talk to the sellers.
3. Attend the previews on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
4. And talk to Jann Parker if you feel that you need any help. You were great and took the time to really listen to what we were looking for and pointed us in right direction.
Your office staff is very courteous and efficient. And Rada Rogers, Equine Motel (Box T Ranch) about two miles from the facility, took excellent care of the last horse we bought while we waited for a hauler. We also want to thank the sellers – Ken and DeeDee McNabb. We bought their horse “Spanky” in October 2015 and they were very honest and helpful. Spanky is everything Ken said he was. He is one of the best horses we have ever owned. And in October 2017 we bought “ Chico ” over the phone from your sale. Clancy and Ida MCNabb did a great job presenting this young horse. He is very nice and Clancy spent a lot of time talking to me about “ Chico ” and his training. I appreciate his honesty and patience. This is also a quality horse. Billings Livestock is truly a first class operation. We would not hesitate to buy another horse from you. Thank you, Jann, and Billings Livestock. Gale and Terry Moroney, Winters, CA

Talli Carmalt, Kalispell , MT
bought Gunner at the Billings Horse Sale in October of 2017 from Jacquie Wilson. He is the most amazing horse and I would not trade him for the world! He is so patient with my 18 month old brother and amazes me every single day! I am so glad I found Gunner and there is no other place I would rather buy a horse than at this sale. If you are looking for a new roping horse, barrel horse or just a kids bombproof horse this is the best place to go -  by far. Thank you Billings Livestock for putting on such an amazing sale every month and thank you Jacquie for selling me Gunner!

Tom Satra, Sidney , MT
It came full circle!
Tom Satra called not too long after the January sale to let us know that January's top selling horse offered by Joe Fox, Hysham , MT had been  originally bred and owned by Tom.
AND - that both the sire and dam had originally sold at Billings .
The dam, a daughter of Set Em Speedy, had been sold in the Wagonhound Land and Livestock Dispersion held at Billihngs Livestock in June 2005, and the sire was purchased as a young horse at BLS.

If your lookin for a super horse, with personable consigners, come to the one stop horse shop...BILLINGS LIVESTOCK SALE, you’ll go home satisifed!!

October 2012 - From Two Hats Ranch, Tillamook, OR Just wanted to give you an update on a gelding that we purchased through the BILLINGS LIVESTOCK HORSE SALE a few years back.
As soon as we got the handsome gelding in our barn, and maybe a few days before, we had him sold and barely got his name changed to include the THR in front of the JETTEN TA FAME before he had someone elses arms wrapped around his neck. We felt he deserved our THR because he is by a stallion that we raised and then sold to Wise Farms in Mississippi, THR Flashing to Fame
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/flashing+to+fame, and because we knew he was going to be such an awesome gelding!
We know there was a sad moment in "Wyatt’s" life but just want everybody to know that this guy is watched over by angels, has enchanted his owners from the very beginning and has always been a blessing! Wyatt recently came in for a tune-up on his training to TWO HATS RANCH and I was able to snap a couple of pictures of the big guy, It was pretty hard to pick which one to send to you because he just doesn’t take a bad one! — at
Two Hats Ranch.

July 2011, Nikki Korte, Joliet, MT I recently purchased a horse, Runaway Bug (Bam Bam), from BLS last fall. He was labeled as a barrel horse with little hauling. We bought him and got him home, and he was just a sweetheart. He was good when we worked barrels, loped circles, or even just goofed of bareback. Our first runs were at the Three Can Tango in Billings, and he definitely exceeded my expectations. I gave him the winter off, and around March I started to get him back in shape. Even though he is still pretty young, he never offered to buck. I t was a really challenging spring with the weather, but slowly and surely he got into shape. Our first run of 2011 was at the Linda Ottun Memorial in Laurel. I will admit that the first run was a bit bumpy, and we ended up with a 16.4. We came out winning a check in the 4D, and that definitely made my day. Over the weekend Bam Bam kept getting faster and I kept learning little things about him that helped me throughout our runs. My fastest time of the weekend was in the youth, 14.4. I was pretty amazed that we could take two seconds off in that amount of time. Winning the open was a 14.1, so needless to say I was pretty excited. One June 2,  Bam Bam and I went to the opening of the Cody Night Rodeo. Because he is such a powerful horse I was a bit nervous about running him in a huge outdoor arena. He surprised me though! We won the Cody Night Rodeo that night, and I had a pretty big smile on my face. At the beginning of this year I made a goal that I wanted to win money at one of our barrel races or rodeos. BLS gave me the horse to accomplish that. I need to give a big thank you to Bill and Jann for have a great horse sale with amazing horses. I really appreciated the preview they gave of the barrel horses, and I know when I am looking for another horse I will see what they have to offer!

July 2011, Rachel Showalter, Huntley, MT - As the mother of 2 ½ year old twins, my husband and I were in the market for a pony. Being dog gentle, puppy dog gentle, was our number one priority in finding the little ones their very first pony. BLS gave me a good opportunity to look at a number of ponies all in one place, of various skill and training levels, all in one weekend. We sorted through the ponies and found "Moses". The former owners called him "Pistol" but we have changed his name to "Moses" because he is God’s gift to my children. Once we evaluated him – we pinched, we poked, we flanked – and we couldn’t make him do a bad move. He was Hip 74 in your last sale, June 2011, and is registered as "Thomas Acres Uncle Buck" an American Miniature Horse Registry buckskin gelding offered by Cooper Smith, Whtiesboro, TX. We really feel like we have found the right pony for our kids. Thank you, BLS.

May 2011, Bob Morrison, Muncy, PA, When I buy another horse, I am buying my next one from you! Our daughter has purchased horses in the past from BLS, and have enjoyed your sales and the way you do business. The last time we came to Billings Livestock Horse Sales, we made a full trip out of it, taking in Cheyenne Frontier Days, as well. Thank you for the quality horses that you offer and the opportunity to take in the previews. We, too, appreciate good horses. And - we look forward to your newsletter, too.

May 2011, VIA FACEBOOK, Barbara J Wind, Buena Vista, CO Love BLS!! We try to make at least 2 sales every year. Great people and great horses!!

May 2011, VIA FACEBOOK, Liz Chappie Zoller, Scottsade, AZ I got a sweet little QH gelding at your August sale last summer and my husband bought a nice riding mule the same day; it was fun - we'll definitely be back! Great, friendly staff, too!

May 2011, Sara Tharp, Three Forks, MTHey everyone, So, some of you will remember back when I bought this big TB gelding at a horse sale back in Aug or Sept. He was in the loose ring and after I bought him a few of the office ladies and the one’s out in the hut have asked after him.   I wanted to wait until I had him in shape and riding well before I sent pics. This is "Up The Creek", he was a sad, body sore boy with a bruised coffin bone when I got him and now look at him!!! He has turned out very handsome and enjoying his new job as an English horse...hopefully jumper as time goes on.

May 2011, Ryan, Melissa, and Tylie Siemsen, Worden, MT We purchased "Elvis" at 10:30 p.m. Saturday night (April,Hip 319 offered by Clancy McNabb, Cody, WY). Great investment for my two-year-old daughter, Tylie. I visited with the consignor about him prior to the sale and he totally assured us about our purchase and was honest! Thank you for the great purchase!

May 2011, VIA FACEBOOK, T.J. Nichols Powelson, Vernon, BC Canada - We had an awesome weekend with you guys! Nice horses and a great showing. Even brought one home to Alberta. Let the Cafe crew know they are the best also.

May 2011, Ellie Capelle with Ranch Creek Outfitters, Manderson, WY We are originally from the midwest. We had never attended a Billings Livestock Horse Sale before. We are now outfitters and decided to attend your March 26-27 "Trail, Outfitting, Guide, and Guest" Horse special. We were so impressed by the organization and customer service provided by your staff. Everyone was more than happy to help us on our very first trip to Billings, they answered our questions, showed us where to go, things were where they said they were, it was just an overall positive horse sale experience! We purchased three head and are coming back again in April. We were so pleased to have purchased reputable stock from reputable people that brought them and represented them fairly. Thank you.

May 2011, Justin Mayfield, Midwest, WY Bill Jan and all the crew,I would like to thankyou for all the work you guys and gals put into marketing  Castle Creek Whiskey. May 2011, Cindy Pfeifer, Livonia, New York - Just want to let you know how pleased we are with MJ Dunit ‘Woody" HIP #345. He has settled into his new home in New York State.we took him to a facililty to work cows over the weekend.   We were very pleased with his calm demeanor - he took everything in stride like a true seasoned horse would.  He turned a lot of heads with his good looks, too!

(Hip 345 in our February 2011 sale was "MJ Dunit" a 05 AQHA Buckskin Gelding x Hollywood Dun It and out of Catty N Classy x Taris Catalyst. The horse was raised, owned and shown by Harvey Lewis, Livingston, MT)

May 2011, Dave Eaton, Benton City, WA I want to thank you guys for all the help in getting my sorrel horse sold. Delon did very well for me. Matt's (Zancanella) little boy (JR) didn't hurt things by roping that steer on Saturday morning (in the preview), either. You guys deserve great praise for the way you run your horse sales. Thanks.

May 2011, Lori Dooley, Belgrade, MT I bought Whiskey from the sale in February 2011. I had spoken with Joe from Rocky Mountain Outfitters a few times before the sale and watched the YouTube video of the horse before the sale, as well. Whiskey is exactly as Joe represented him to be. I have been having a great time riding this horse and getting back into riding after a 15 year hiatus. Thank you, BLS and thanks Rocky Mountain Outfitters for giving me the opportunity to get such a great horse at a fair price.

May 2011 - Emma Myhre, Worden, MT (3 Years Old) Hi Jann, We purchased "Sonora" last summer in the open consignment offering. When we purchased her, we took her home and turned her out for six months - got her in, got on, and started working cattle with her here on the ranch. This little mare is so gentle and when Emma announced she was 'sick of riding her pony' she took over "Sonora". Emma rides her around the yard and enjoys HER new horse!

April 2011 - Gayl Russell, Missoula, MT

I know you guys are pretty much a "western style" salesbarn, but I have an unlikely story to share with you. I pull a triple-axle cow trailer for Berger out of Missoula. I came in to load cows for Nampa, Idaho on Saturday during the March Horse Sale last year. Not wanting to load until that night, I wandered through the sale pens and found a paint gelding that I liked. I have been showing hunter/jumpers for the last 5 years, and he looked like he could possibly make a jumper style horse. So, I bought Artic Moon, a 17 year old, green broke gelding that had been a stud till he was 15! He was APHA registered and had been a Halter Champion at age 2 in Utah! I raise and show my own Paints, so figured he would fit into my program. Harley, as I nicknamed him, is a rare find! I started him over jumps and what an amazing year we had! By December, we had won Championships in Montana, Washington, Oregon and even Texas. Artic Moon won Year-end Championship titles in both Montana and Washington. In December, we placed 8 in a large Mini Prix class that the fence height was 1.10 meter. (3’7") With the exception of Montana, all the shows were USEF/USHJA rated shows. He is truly an amazing athlete. Harley will be featured in the back page story of the Practical Horseman, June edition. What a case of being in the right place at the right time! Thanks also to Harley Heward of Burley, Idaho for giving me the opportunity to buymy "unlikely jumper and champion"! He has a home with me forever. Gayl Russel

April 2011 - Kelly Horton, Sturgis, SD

Bill and Jann: I really appreciated the opportunity to visit with you on February 4 at the Black Hills Stock Show Team Roping. As we discussed, "Lil Haida Glo" was purchased at Billings Livestock in February 2009 and was raised and offered by Buster Welch, Rotan, TX. She has just been a fantastic horse. in fact she carried me to First Place in the number 10 roping that very day. Again, thank you for providing me with the opportunity to purchase such a fine horse. (Lil Haida Glo is a 2005 AQHA sorrel mare by Haidas Little Pep and out of Lil Bunny Glo x Little Bunny Lena)

April 2011 - Elizabeth French, Pompeys Pillar, MT

Hi, I am Elizabeth French, I am 12 years old, and a daughter of Jim and Debbie French, and I am from Pompeys Pillar, MT.

I purchased my horse "Tee" at the BLS Horse Sale in March 2008. He came from the McGuire family from Wheatland, Wy, and I know they consign a lot of nice horses in your sale.

When I first rode "Tee", everything just clicked. So about a month later in April 2008 I went to a rodeo and was riding "Tee" in the barrels and poles. I was riding another horse for the flag race and goats. It was a very big rodeo, too, it had saddles, horse blankets, and stuff like that for prizes. I won a horse blanket in poles and goats. Now it was time for the All-Around saddles - me and my best friend, Katy Negard, were both very close. When they called my name for the All-Around, I was so happy!

My brother had never won a saddle before (he is 3 years older than me) so I would always bring that up.

Well, all that changed in Sidney, MT for the High School and YRA rodeo in 2010.

He finally won his saddle, so now I couldn't brag bout it.

Then - three hours later, I won another saddle, so I could still brag to him!

That day, I won my first breakaway buckle on "Tee", too. Me and my horse "Tee" have been through alot, like how "Tee" doesn't like my Dad or my brother, but loves me.

When we were in Scobey, MT my brother was saddling my horse for me and he got loose. He got my saddle and pad off and we found them in a ditch later. He went into the indoor arena and Shane Peabody said "I wonder sh's horse this is". My dad said, I think it's mine."" So - we have great stories to tell!

Who would think a barrel horse would be such a gentleman at a 4-H horse show? Well, "Tee" was and we won the highpoint buckle. I was so proud that he did that for me.

A note from Debbie French:: I am sure you will have to consolidate Elizabeth's story but thought I'd share some "Mom Thoughts" as well...

"Tee" truly has been a blessing to Elizabeth. They are a real team. He takes care of her. "Tee" accidently slipped and went down with her last summer. Her foot was broken but "Tee" calmly laid there until we could get her boot out of the stirrup safely.People were going crazy because they thought he might be colicing or was hurt, but he was fine - just simply taking care of his friend.

January 2011 - Anita Janssen, Janssen Performance Horses, Rush City, MN Thank you so much for creating a very positive sales experience for us this past weekend.I would highly recommend BLS to anyone looking to maximize their horse's sale potential.I posted a favorable status on our Janssen Performance Horses FB page, too, If you would like to comment on their suggesting people check out this page, please feel free to do so.Thanks again to you, Bill, Dennis, and everyone else out there! We were very pleased!

January 2011 - Ron Burns, Burns Ranch Quarter Horses, White Sulphur Spgs, MT (A Montana Ranching Family since 1864) Just wanted to let you know that we enjoyed your January BLS Horse Sale. You and your staff are very professional, efficient, and courteous.  The girl clerking all day long is super, and we always enjoy Ty.  We got two mares we are very tickled with.  Thanks again and let your crew know that they are appreciated.

January 2011 - Donna Reid, Webb, SASK Just want to let you know that the bay mare I bought at BLS "Susie's Promise" is a World Show Qualifier in the Ranch Horse Verstility and is qualified to go to Houston in March, 2011 in the AQHA Amateur class. My husband, Tom Graham, showed her and won the Saskatchewan AQHA Ranch Horse Versatility Amateur and qualified this mare. She is a very, very nice mare - thanks again for all the awesome horses!

December 2010 - VIA E-MAIL -Joyce Brown - Also, have wanted to tell you how much we like reading your articles in the Billings Livestock Paper. The suggestions & ideas you write about are working. Pictures of horses are better along with several other suggestions you have made in your articles. You & Bill make Billings Livestock horse sales a pleasure to attend. Both of you are so organized. Still take the time to say Hi to everyone. THANKS SO MUCH,

December 2010Tami Morris - I always wanted a blk&white pony, HE came from billings livestock Horse Sale November 2005 .

December 2010 J.R. Winter - Bill, Jann and BLS Crew, thank you for the hard work you put into promoting and selling my horse, Hip 124, "Dig The Kid." We appreciate the effort. Twice I was walking by Bill when he had people looking at his horse and he told the people WE had the horse for them. That meant a lot and we are grateful.

December 2010 VIA E-MAIL - Glenda Valvoda - Please mail me a copy of the October catalog. As an fyi, the gelding we bought in April is turning into a fantastic trail horse- handled the Bob Marshalls like it was a walk in the park. I worked with him a lot during the early summer before taking him on a 3 day ride in the Bob. He has a great mind. So, we are coming back to your sale this month, hopefully to find a great weanling we can raise up our way. I know you have heard it before, but we appreciate how professional the sales are run. You treat horses and people with respect and dignity.

December 2010 -Missy Christian - The sale was great. (October 2010) Thanks for everything and thanks Bill for the palomino filly. I think she’ll add to our program well.

Decebmer 2010 - VIA FACEBOOK - Brooke Howell  Hi! I bought a horse at your June sale and just want to let you know what a cool little horse she is turning out to be. Also I was a phone bidder and want to thank you for making it so easy to bid and complete all the paperwork! I will definately be back!

Pamela Abbott-Brooker, Bonners Ferry, ID
When I attended your May 2010 sale I had success in purchasing two good horses to use as lead ponies for my Thoroughbred farm. Your sale was very well run, friendly, and I had a wonderful time.  The selection of good, well trained horses was fantastic! I felt secure to buy from your catalog sale - my horse was sound, just as advertised.  Thank you  The photo is me and my new gelding "Johnny Walker Red", he is working out beatifully in his new career as my lead pony and I really love him alot!
From Amanda Dikoff, Hermosa , SD
In September of 2007 my parents headed to Billings to look at rope horses for my little brother.  I didn't go along but I had previously checked out the catalog and "starred" the horses that I wouldn't mind them brining home!  They found a heading mare for my little brother but they also bought a three-year-old mare by Mr Skyline Peppy and out of a Smart Little Lena mare. Well, since that time, I have used her on the ranch and the show pen - doing reining and working cowhorse. In 2008, it was my last year of AQHA youth. I took her to Oklahoma City for the AQHA World Show and showed her in the youth.College permitting, I also have plans to qualify her in the future as an amateur.  She has her quirks, but I could not have gotten a better little mare that has more heart and try than she does.Thank you!

August 2010 - From Kim A. Colliflower, Lodge Grass, MT"Certainly like the horse I purchased from Billings Livestock in June 2009. I have used him to flag rodeos, used as a head horse at jackpots, and I have ridden him at brandings at four or five places this spring." Kim purchased Hip 268 "OMI Booger" a 2003 AQHA Roan Gelding offered by Henry Hollenbeck, Molt, MT at our June 2009 sale. A former CPRA and PRCA Rodeo judge, Kim has also judged the Indian National Finals Rodeo on three occasions. We caught up with Kim at the Crow Fair Rodeo in Crow Agency, MT where he was flagging the rodeo aboard "OMI Booger".

Augusut 2010 - From Jerri Larsen, Wilsall, MT Hi Jann Thank you for helping with my phone bid in buying Hip 85 "Jaz". She is quite the little horse. Thank you for the great job you do.

August 2010 - From Travis Holck, Ruthton, MN - Hello, Jann - Just read my July Horse Sale Update from BLS. I totally agree with your article "All the Right Reasons". I am another true believer in the auction way of doing business.I also enjoy reading the thank you letters your recieve from the many happy customers that bought horses through Billings Livestock I am on the other end of the spectrum.I would like to thank you - as a seller - not only for having courteous office staff, but for all the behind the scenes work.Having pens bedded, feed ready, and water tanks full.I usually pull into the yards in the middle of the night and it saves me alot of time and effort when I am more than ready for bed.The list is pretty long of all the things the BLS Horse Sale staff d Travis Holck, Ruthton, MN

August 2010  - From Tom, Toni, and Wendy Wagoner, Buffalo, WY We wanted to THANK YOU for the way you run an outstanding sale. We felt we worked hard to bring you a really nice gelding this past month and we felt you worked equally as hard to get us a good price for that gelding. We appreciate the time you take in the ring and in the previews to help each one of us market our horses. With that said, we will be at Billings Livestock Horse Sales in the future. Thanks again.

August 2010 - VIA Facebook: Bonnie Haselton - One year ago my horse "Ace" came through the July sale - best horse in the world! Brook Curnow - You guys always have a great sale. I love seeing the great horses that come through and still waiting for my dream horse. Carol Van Delinder - I bought a miniature stallion at BLHS 3 years ago. He’s wonderful, my first mini after 40 years of raising Quarters and Paints. Dori Steckley - Nothing back here in Michigan even comes close to what you do! I’ve bought and sold with you when I lived in Cody, WY. I miss the whole bunch of you!

August 2010 - From Lisa Downin, Calhan, CO Just wanted to thank you so much for finding "Sammy" for me. He really is a "good boy"! He should be perfect for the $2,000 Limit Rider class. It all seems to be a good fit. Thank you so much.

August 2010 - From Bill Hibnes, Big Timber, MT A big THANK YOU to the employees and Brand office at the "Loose Horse" Check-In. Everyone was very helpful!!

July 2010  - From Chris Osowski, Anchorage, Alaska  Dear Bill and Jann: I am writing regarding Tom Lazenby and Blair Gjeswold and the horses we purchased from them at your recent auction. (May 2010) I have never bought a horse at auction before, let alone long distance and sight unseen. I did have some well reputed local representatives there at your sale giving me some great "over the phone" advise, but it was a nerve wracking commitment, none the less, when I had them bid and win Hip 220 from Blair Gjenswold and Hip 294 from Tom Lazenby. Following our winning bid, I then got to practice the "patience of Job" for the next 10 days while our horses were being hauled through Canada on the way up here to Alaska. If my experience is representative of anything, Tom and Blair clearly undersate the qualities of their horses. I had no idea how high quality of a horse I was getting - and it is several tiers above what I had hoped for. I do not know how many more horses I will be buying in my lifetime, but I promise that you will be the first stop when "next time" comes. I plan to bring my family to visit one of your auctions some day simply becasue the thought of seeing so many high quality horses all in one place is so appealing to me. I don't know how well you keep tabs on your consignors, but Tom and Blair must surely be top notchers, from my experience. Would you mind passing on my gratitude to them for me?

May 2010 - Jody and Elaine Flom, Park City, MT Hi Jann, We bought K.D. Babe from BLS and what a blessing she has been! She has been our son Harley’s main horse and has helped him win three buckles one being an all around buckle. Harley does everything on her from barrels, poles, flags, goat tying, roping and just plain old riding. She is truly an amazing horse and is totally bomb proof. A huge Thanks goes out to everyone at BLS for all they do! (Lora Davies Photo - www.loradavies.com)

May 2010 - Jim McMurphy, Spirit River, Alberta, CanadaHi, Jann and Bill - Just thought I would drop you a line and let you know how much I appreciated all the help at the Rope Horse Sale April 23-24, 25 , 2010.From the staff up front to the staff out back, I felt that I got all the help and advise I could ask for - and then some!"V.I.P." treatment as far as I was concerned!Just a note I thought I would pass on: I was watching consignments very close from home as you updated the internet listing. I had some horses picked out to take a closer look at. Well - let's just say I threw that list out the window once I got down there and actually watched the horses perform in the jackpot and previews. The catalog is GOOD - BUT - to REALLY get the true feel for the horses, I strongly recommend going to the sale and watch how the horses perform - in the jackpot setting as well as the previews.I quickly scratched a few horses BUT quickly added many more to my list! While watching the previews on Saturday (both rope horse previews) I was able to narrow my list down to which horses I was REALLY interested in.As you know, I brought home a total of four horses. I am very happy with ALL of the horses!! Looking forward to the fall sale...!Thanks and see you this fall!

April 2010 - Adam Jones, Harlowton, MTHello - I would greatly appreciate being added to your mailing list for your monthly update and catalog. Both of my team roping horses have been purchased at your April Rope Horse Sale 2010. April 2010 - Ken Sipe, Columbia Falls, MTDear Jann and Bill -During the beginning of the April 24-25, 2010 Sale while the little lady was singing the National Anthem, I had the opportunity to look around at the crowd and I was moved and proud. The entire audience was standing - except for one older gentleman who was on oxygen and he had his hat off and had it over his heart.I am proud to be a small part of an industry and people who are proud of their country.Just thought I would say my part of "thanks" to everyone.

April 2010 - Shayna Williams, Redland, CA Pete and Jill Houck, North Branch, MN sold Hip 353X "I Smoke Peppy Cowboy" a 2003 AQHA Sorrel gelding at our February 2010 sale event. April 2010 - Abi Deveraux, Newcastle, WY My name is Abi Deveraux and I am 12 years old. My Dad bought "Bugsy" (Im Really Smokin" from the Kelly Ranch Mare Dispersion in July 2008.She was bought as a broodmare as she is a daughter of Grays Starlight.Come to find out, she was open, so my Dad put her to use on the ranch. We then found out that she had some training. She will work a cow, run barrels, poles, just about anything you ask her to do, she does it and does it well!Since I was having some problems with my barrel horse, I started riding her.I used her last summer for all of my rodeos and won many awards. At our local fair rodeo in Newcastle, WY "Bugsy" won her first barrel and pole buckles as well as helping me win the Junior Girls All-Around Saddle! She is one of the many fine horses we have bought at Billings Livestock! My family and I would also like to THANK YOU for the great job you guys did selling my twin brother's spotted pony, Bart, a few months ago. Thanks again!

April 2010 - JD and Sammi Philleo, Wyoming I sent you a note a few months ago letting you know how much we love "Hippie" the horse we purchased at the February 2008 sale. When we purchased him, the consignor said he had been started with some cowhorse training and they had tried to rope on him but he was too hot.Abby has now officially stolen him from her Dad who showed him last year in the cowhorse events and she now uses him as her junior rodeo and rope horse. Thanks so much for all you do there. Hippie has the biggest, most patient soul for our little girl.We will be back to see you soon!

April 2010 - Wade Fowler, Crossfire Quarter Horses, Chetwynd, BC Canada Hello, Jann and Bill - I just thought I would wirte you a line to let you know that the horse I purchased at your September 2008 Rope horse sale recently won me a horse trailer at a team roping event in Fort St. John BC Canada. From Eli Toney, Williamsburg, VA   Bill, Jann, Just wanted to share the attached with you, Frost is well adjusted to his new home, I am enjoying him, great horse with a great mind and attitude. Frink, Wanablee, SD. and had been ranch used and started in the arena.) We roped on him one month prior to the Finals of the Wrangler Team Roping Championships - he's smart and easy going; He's been hauled to rodeos and jackpots and won saddles at both!

Vicki Small, Busby, MT I purchased "Deets" at the October 2008 sale. He is a 6 year old gelding who is currently being used as a ranch horse. He has been used at brandings, trailed cows, and is currently in training as a barrel horse. Deets has a ton of speed and will be trained this winter as a head horse by Junior Small. Deets is sound and has never bucked. Presently being used this summer by my nephew, Ty Robinson, as a pick up horse. Has a tremendous amount of promise and I am very excited about this horse. He is an "all-around" horse. It was well worth staying util till 12:30 a.m.!! Ty and Deets are pictured at the INFR Tour Rodeo in Rocky Boy, MT just last week where Ty picked up on him.

From Blake Kruger, Cannon Falls, MN Love the horse and love coming to Billings! (Blake purchased Hip 246 in July offered by Dan Manning, Wickenburg, AZ)

From Darwin Huravitch, Rozet, WY I bought Hip 31 ("Guy" offered by Chance Isbell, Sheridan, WY) at the July sale, as you may remember, the owner cracked a whip off him and he did not move. We have ridden "Guy", even my son has been on him, and he is as good as the seller said he was. I was leary of buying a horse at a sale - people had told me not to - but I have to say the horse is very good and my son now wants to take him from me! We all were very impressed how you handle all the horses and the sale. When I am looking for another horse, you will be at the top of the list for me!

From Andy Osmundson, Harrison, ID (Andy purchased Hip 225 "Jingle Bells" at our July 2009 Sale - The 03 grade Welsh Cross gelding was offered by Greenough Ranch, Billings, MT) Bill thought you would like to see the attached picture of "Jingle Bells" and my daughter - she loves to pet him and loves to be led around and is looking forward to riding him on her own! I think he likes the attention as well - he meets her at the gate!

From J.D. & Sammi Philleo, Kinnear, WY We sold our ittle gelding, "Tonto" this past Saturday and just wanted to thank your whole crew for a really professional experience. Tonto was special to our family and we know he went to a great home. Also, at the February 2009 sale we purchased "Badgers In Command" and just love him! My husband ropes off him and is competing in ranch horse and reined cowhorse competitions and our daughter Abby is started to run barrel and poles on him. Thanks again and we'll see you the next time we have horse buying or selling needs. JD and Sammi Philleo, Kinnear, WY

From Gary & Lynn Ediger, Wolf Point, MT Just going to let you know about a horse we got in your Fall Sale in 2002. His name is Key Cedar Man. We started him barrels and heeling and in 2007 sold him to Donna and Teri Kay Leibrand. Teri Kay won 4th in the CCA Finals in Canada on him 2007. She has placed and won on him lots!. At the Borderline Barrel Race in Havre she won the 2-D saddle on him. Lynn and Gary Ediger, Wolf Point, MT

From Scott & Kimberly Hulme, Montpelier, ID I just really wanted to tell you thanks for having such a great sale with a lot of nice horses to pick from. Scott bought "AR Jewels in Red" from the Atwood Ranch. I started her Monday afternoon and she was perfect. I have never started a horse without the help of Scott, but this one I did with Scott gone. I saddled her and put a bridle on and before I knew it, I was on her and riding around the round pen. Scott came home and could not believe how smart this mare is. She watches things but does not freak out about them, she investigates themin a calm manner and then she is over it. The best thing is that she is scared to death of a cow and we love that, because you guys know that all the good ones are! She is a great addition to our barn and will stay there for a long time. We were told by six different peiole that we had the buy of the sale with "Jewels" so we just wanted to tell BLS thanks again for attracting great horses to your sale!

Roger Millard, Riverton, WY - We really enjoyed your last sale and wanted you to know how much we appreciate the contributions Billings Livestock Commission make in the horse and horse owner world. These are troubling times in the livestock and horse business. You folks provide an environment where the horses and horse owners are treated with respect and compassion. Thanks SO MUCH!....again, wereally are happy customers.Have a good day.

Rickie & Bonnie Root,Lake Forest, CA - It has been ten years since we became acquainted with Billings Livestock. In April of 1999, we purchased a 3-year-old gelding that had been trained and offered by Rory Patten, Buck Lake, Alberta. This Doc O'lena bred gelding has been an absolute gem. The only things that rattle him are the mountain lions and mountain bikers! In the spring of 2000, we purchased another horse through Billings Livestock also trained and consigned by Rory Patten.  This one was purchased sight-unseen via phone bidding. He is Dry Doc bred, and again, could not have been a better purchase. Both of these horses have been used for roping and when they are done, will become baby sitters for our grand boys. Thank you for providing excellent horses.

Connie Jack & Ron York, Powell, WY We purchased Hip 442 Shiners Diamond Pal at the July 2009   sale and are delighted with him. He is everything the sellers, the Goody's from Clarkston, UT, said he was...and more! We work on a 1,200 cow permit in the Big Horns and we are working him into our string. His attitude "I can do this" makes him a pleasure to ride. We are "Oldies But Goodies" and have bought several good ranch geldings from BLS.We are still "out there" and we're riding hard. Keep up the good work!

OCTOBER 2008 - Hello, I just wanted to let you know that we bought 2 horses from your October Sale and could not be happier. I was a little nervous buying an auction horse but this experience has been a good one. We bought hip #260 and #450. My 12 year old son just loves his new paint mare. She is everything the seller said and more. Thanks a lot for the honesty in the horse business that can be hard to come by.    Allen , Amy, and Wyatt Vaalemoen

From Torrey Darkenwald, Colstrip , MT    I recently purchased a horse from your sale and was very pleased with the experience.  This was my first time buying a horse from an auction and I had heard many bad stories of horses that go through the sale ring.  I saw a horse on-line and called the seller. I was unable to make it to town the day of the sale, so I arranged to phone bid.  Your staff did a great job getting me all the forms faxed and filled out...I had a moment of fear when I was the highest bidder, what had I done? I spent the next day in panic that I may have just purchased a sour horse. To my delight, he was everything that your staff said he was when I arrived!  We love our new horse, he was the best purchase I had ever made and I am proud to tell people that I bought him at Billings Livestock Horse Sales.  Thank you for bringing such good, sound, horses to your arena and running a business that reflects the clientele you serve.

From Norman Schuchard, Harlowton , MT    Thank you for selling our horses.  It is nice to have a place to market a good horse.  I was very impressed with the way you handle so many horses so easily. I was also impressed with all the stalls and pens - and - every pen had water and hay! I  know this takes a lot of work and alot planning.   Keep up the good work!

From Bonnie Steg, Helena , MT   This is our first venure into miniature horses.  We have horses and miniature donkeys.  The two weanlings we purchased made the trip home and are doing well.  That sale was one of the most fun we've attended.  Watching all the kids that were involved and how excited they were was a real treat!  Thanks!

Hip 221 X purchased July 2008 from Amercian West Reiners, AZ Just wanted you to know how well I have done with the buckskin Hollywood Dun It mare that I purchased two weeks ago at your July sale.  I saw her advertised, did my homework, watched the previews, and purchased the mare.  I rode her three times, showed her on my fourth ride - we split first in the non-pro at the Saskatchewan Reining Horse Association approved show this past weekend!  She is a very nice, kind, mare and so good to be around! I showed her within five days of getting her home, believe it or not. Thank you for the nice horses - and - as a Canadian customer, I would like to thank your staff for their extra mile service in getting our Federal paper work in order.  I will be back!  Donna Reid, Webb, Saskatchewan, Canada

Hip 462 "Feather" purchased August 2007 from Tesha Fredricks, New Town, ND Hello! Last August 2007 I purchased a flashy little quarter pony for my son.  I am thrilled to say that they are doing amazing together!   They are an amazing team.  Lane competed this year in the 4-H horse show and won enough rosettes and trophies to last a lifetime! She was on fire during the speed events and won grand champion poy barrels and poles!!  It was a pleasure coming to your sale and having so many options to choose from. I would never buy another horse anywhere else!!  thanks you.  Chaynee Washut, Evansville, WY

From Al and Judy Schultz, Cody, WY - We want to thank you for the effort you put forth in selling our roping cattle!  We were very impressed! You run a first class operion.  Look forward to seeing you both this summer.  Thanks again, Al and Judy Schultz

Hip 6 "Big T" purchased December 2005 from Sombrero Ranches,Boulder, CO  Never thought I would be in the market for a 20 year-old horse! But - when you can turn a four-year-old girl loose on a horse she can control, it's worth something! The Sombrero palomino gelding they call "Big T" is going to make our twins and hired man's three little girls very happy.  Steve Held, Broadus, MT

Hip 228 05 AQHA Red Dun stallion purchased November 2005 from Haycreek Quarter Horses, Aladdin, WY  I would like to request your next catalog. I would also like to say "thanks" to the Billings sale for having a great sale and very nice employees. I bought Hip 228 - a dun colt at your November sale. My daughter named him "Montana" - She is the happiest girl in the world! He is like a big, gentle, puppy dog. They follow each other all over the ranch. Yesterday she even brought him into the house, my husband was not very happy...but to me it was very cute! My daughter has never been this happy - this colt changed her life. Thanks again and thank you to Hay Creek Quarter Horses.  Ashley Garcia, Livermore, CA

Hip 185 "Hollys Goliath" purchased November 2005 from Asa Stothart, Cody, WY  Dear Billings Livestock: Thank you so much for the phone bid help. You made my first experience an absolute pleasure. He takes me where I want to go, and comes home! It's hard to believe he is so gentle - we really got a good one. Thanks!   Willa Murphy, Fort Peck, MT

October 2007: Thank you, Thank you! We were really pleased with all you did for us on sale day. May 2007: Hello - I bought a horse named "Curly" from Turner Performance Horses, Chad and Paje, at your April 2007 Rope Horse Sale.. I roped on him for the first time last night. This horse is everything that Chad and Paje said he was. He scores like a rock, rates, pulls, and faces perfectly every time. You barely have to touch him to move him in or out. He is always calm and is always the same. He is super smooth and never bounces or jars you when you rope, no matter how fast or slow the steer is. He is a very high powered horse and I would be shocked if I ever got outrun on him. My roping literally improved within a couple of hours of roping on him. He is so well trained that all I have to worry about is catching! Curly does the rest. I can't wait until I can go rope again. Horses as smart, well trained, consistent and smooth as Curly don't come along too often. He is a true testament to the quality of horses produced by Chad and Paje. Sincerely, Chyan Biggs, Bozeman, Montana

May 2007: Your rider did a real nice job in the ring with Jet - Thanks a bunch! Connie Williams Gillette, WY

December 2006: Bruce and I would like to thank you all so much for helping us market our horses! Your office staff was very polite and helpful - that means a lot to us also!! You all deserve a pat on the back...we know how hard it is to host one sale a year and you guys do it every month. Thanks so much.  Bruce and Kim Crago Belle Fourche, SD

Strek N Lil, Hip 288 - purchased July 2005 via PHONE BID from Julie Black, Idaho,  Hi - I would like to thank you for your help in purchasing the right horse for my daughter. We purchased mare Hip 288 at the July sale. It was nerve racking buying a horse SIGHT UNSEEN but it was well worth it. She is wonderful - loves people and is so mellow that she is getting along with my other horses. My daughter is so happy. The haulers were wonderful and kept me informed along the way. Thanks again. Susan Auster, New Jersey

Pats Lil Gunner, Hip 121 - purchased July 2005 from Don and Kathleen Strain, South Dakota   Dear Jann and Bill:  I just wanted to write you and say a big "thank you". We have been looking for the horse of our dreams for four years since I took a fall off a horse and broke my back. We have every summer been out to Billings Livestock Sale and been so impressed - we thought, why not? So, we called and in speaking to Jann, I felt we were on the right track. At the sale we listened and Jann listened. We purchased - of all the luck - a Strain Ranch mare. She proved to be gentle and very well broke. Even though we are back to our gruelling schedules, we are having fun living, learning, riding, and loving our new "girl", Nita. We are returning once more in November on our honeymoon and we will miss Nita horribly while we are away. Thank you for giving me back my confidence. Brenda Rick, Pennsylvania

Bueno Super Babe - purchased in November 2004 from Daniel and Lousie Mauch, Nebraska:   "I thought I would let you know how the horse we bought from you in November at the Billings sale is doing. We weren't able to ride him much over the winter, but he has been hard at work since the weather has gotten better. Mike is going to use him to hunt on and I have been showing him in western pleasure. He has alot of potential as a reining horse so I will pursue that as he progresses in his training. Mike has had him on cattle a couple of times and he is very cowy. He even cut one out of the pen by himself, with no rider, when were trying to sort some on the ground! He has been a great horse and he is getting steadier all the time. I will send a picture of him at his first show in Missoula where he won his first ribbons. Thanks again." Cheryl and Mike Friend.

We have been bringing horses to your sale for years now and have always had a good experience with you. At your May 2006 sale we consigned horses as well – and - ended up buying three! Including a 17 year old bay mare - I'll Run For Fun - and her baby at side. The consignor called her a finished barrel horse - we took them at their word. She is everything they said and more! She is as automatic as they come. In addition, my granddaughter bought a 3yr old palomino granddaughter of Frenchmans Guy , L D French Sprat {nilla} consigned by Jake Clark, Powell, WY. Well she was small - and only had ten rides - so we got her at a good price and we are thankful that they let her go that day as she is awesome - and I wish all the horses that I bought had ten rides like that! We will be taking her to some barrel racing futurities in 08 and in November this year Niki used her packing flags at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton Alberta. People are amazed that she is only 4yrs old. My point is: People should realize that just because they're young, doesn't mean you can't do anything with them. Thank you - Marie Seitz and Nichole Mitchell, Nanton, Alberta, CANADA

Hi there! We are writing to let you know of a couple "success stories". We purchased this black gelding at your February 2007 sale. We needed a solid gelding for all of the ranch work we do here in Big Sandy, MT and have been very pleased with "Blackie". I use him on the ranch and our 7 year old daughter, Grace has used him barrel racing...she won quite a few checks off of him! We appreciate your sales and how well run they are. Thank you from very satisfied customers!

Hi there! We are writing to let you know of a couple "success stories". The gray gelding was purchased at your October 2007 sale. He was represented as a horse anyone could ride. Here's a photo of Grace riding him a couple days after we got home with him. She really enjoys "Judge" and how easy he is to handle in the saddle and on the ground. We appreciate your sales and how well run they are. Thank you from very satisfied customers!

May 2007: YOU DUN SPOTTED ME – sold by the Weller Ranch, May 2007 and purchased by Wynne Fandek, Huntley, MT

Just to let you know that I rode Trea (short for Treasure) again tonight. On Sunday after Aaron and I rode I was calling him a treasure. Trea it is. I was worried about being a bit premature naming him that. I was not. We have not been able to ride since last Sunday due to weather and he was just as nice tonight. I ponied a reluctant horse 2 miles over to my mom's and Trea just pulled away. Through the slop of the stubble field to boot! We trotted home beside the county road with traffic. We rode through a couple of neighbor's yards with all of the scary things those contain. When we got home, we wrangled the rest of the snorty horses. No problems. Just wanted to let you guys know! Thank you and hope to see you soon, Wynne

July 2007 from Kayti Korte, Joliet, MT

We bought Browning Express aka Cookie @ the October 2005 BLS Horse Sale for Kayti Korte aka Songbird. Kayti was 10 and just getting over a confidence issue from a broken arm off dad’s rope horse. They have placed and won money all over Montana and @ the Cody Night Rodeo and they also qualified and competed @ the Wrangler JRHS Finals in Gallup, NM July 2007. We would like to thank Bill and Jann Parker for all they have done for Kayti and our family - God Bless and ride tough.

July 2006 From: Cheri Robbins, Walsh, CO

A great success story from Cheri Robbins, Walsh, CO who purchased via phone bid, Hip 313 "Foxy" a 91 Grade Bay Gelding from our May 2006 sale. The good guy was consigned by Terry Hammel, Hot Springs, SD.

Cheri writes: To All At Billings Livestock Auction: Hi, you mentioned you like the success stories for the auction. I have one!  Mother's Day 2006 my husband bought the neighbor's Doctor's Buggy. They had owned it five years but could not find a suitable horse. That was May 14th. On the weekend of May 28th, your acution had a buggy horse for sale. We NEVER buy a horse sight-unseen, but that one really sounded like what we wanted - if he was all they said him to be.  We had the auction call us when he entered the sale ring. By the way, they knew they sold 30 horses per hour and they were right on time! We were waiting. We asked what he looked like at age 15, and they said "fine". We won the bid. They fed him as they feed all the horses until they are gone. With the auction's help, a transport service called us. Foxy arrived on Tuesday after the sale.  He was tired, of course. We are 800 miles from Montana. He rested two days. But within one week we were hooked to the buggy and headed down the road. He was all the write-up said right down to the words, "He is a pleasure to be around."   Thanks to the auction for the wonderful way they called us, fed him, and got him to us. We sure will be looking at the next sales, as well.  How could I know the summer would hold this pleasure!

Many thanks, Cheri Robbins, Miss Rodeo Kansas 1966 (The photo above was taken at a parade on June 3, 2006) THANK YOU FOR SHARING, CHERI!!!

September 2006: An update from the Mauch's, Fordyce, NE:

Hello all, I just thought I would let you all know that Gunner, our cutting mare we have on the road in Wyoming has now completed her first year of cutting with the big dogs, meaning she is not competing in futurities against others her own age. She is competing against some very seasoned horses. She went into the final show in first place and won first place in the Wyoming Cutting Assoc. She brought home a trophy saddle for winning first. We are so proud of her and our trainer, James Johnson, we had to let you all know about our successful year. Just call us proud horse people, we love it you know.

Happy trails, Dan and Louise Mauch

This year, Anna and Smokey are top contenders for the All-Around title at the Young Rider Series where Anna uses Smokey in the barrels, poles, and goats. Purchased at Billings Livestock in October 2000, the nice gray gelding was consigned by Gary and Betty Knight. Photo courtesy of Vickie MacCarty.

pazazz

Par Pizzaz - consigned by the Dodge's in Twin Bridges, MT.

This fellow runs barrels, poles, rope off him, do it all - packed the flag in parades and was a great "Queen" horse!  He's still doing all of that, but now belongs to the Moulette's of St. Xavier, MT!

Hi! My name is Colter and I am 3 years old. I just want to thank BLS and the Sombrero Ranch for my special gelding Vic. He is the perfect first horse for me and I trust him completely. The Sombrero Ranch staff were wonderful in helping me to pick just the right horse and I would like to thank Bill Weller for helping me to buy him. I ride Vic to help my mom & dad during calving and he takes good care of me. Thanks again, BLS.

The sorrel is "Big John" and we purchased him in December 2006. Both are 23 years old! Thank you, Brent and Lisa Morrison

CONGRATULATIONS, Charlie Lenning and SQ Leo Last Dust!

He's a coming six year old AQHA Gelding purchased at Billings Livestock in July of 1999 as a two-year-old. The nice gelding was raised and consigned by Janice Hunter, Castor, Alberta. He's by Peppys Big Cougar and out of a Leo Bar bred dam. Charlie is pictured here at the MTRA Finals in September. With limited hauling, this duo has earned over $4,000! Wendy Small, Pompeys Pillar, MT gets the credit for breaking him to ride!

woody

Gary Woodworth, Shepherd, MT and "Jets Smoke and Fire"

A 1996 APHA Bay Gelding purchased at Billings Livestock's February 2001 Sale event. What a match up! One of the region's toughest competitors and a heck of a horse hand, Gary and "Ace" are pictured here winning second at the 2001 Montana Fair Rodeo in Billings - they have accumulated over $7,100 in calf roping earnings this year - and NEVER left Montana! Gary has won a check on this horse every time he has backed in the box - except twice! (And according to Gary, that wasn't the horse's fault, he just missed!) The Smart Little Lena, Mr. Gunsmoke, and Leo bred gelding has qualified in the top five for both the NRA Finals and PRCA Montana Summer Circuit Finals! Gary says the horse is a natural - he's never made a mistake! Congratulations and go get 'em - we are betting on you! Rodney Vance photo
