Sale Report for November 24-25

Good Geldings Got It

With the magic mix of gentle, color, and common sense, good geldings continued to shine at Billings Livestock Commission’s two-day “Holiday Special Catalog Sale” November 24-25.

Age played a factor in the top selling gelding division, as the older, trustworthy boys from nine to fifteen years old dominated the category.

The average age of a top five gelding was ten - and - toted an average selling price of $5,540.

Friday’s indoor preview of the barrel horses, ropers, cutters, and saddle horses started the Thanksgiving weekend’s events where 578 head of horses were bought and sold.

He’d been used as a pick-up horse at Fort Smith, Arkansas, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and El Paso, TX and Hip 196 “Pine Bar Cat” a 2003 AQHA Buckskin stallion was truly an ‘all-around” horse - he’d been hitched to the feed wagon, started heading, heeling, and used in parades.

They had owned him since he was a weanling, and Duane and Chloe Gilbert, Pine Bluffs, WY offered the attractive stallion sired by Roanys Tomcat x High Rolling Roany and out of a Poco Pine granddaughter.

Quiet, gentle, and willing to please, the first-class package sold to WBD Ranch, Lipton, Saskatchewan for $9,600.

Sired by the NCHA Horse of the Year “Smooth As A Cat” and out of a Peppy San Badger daughter, Hip 283X “Peppys Smooth Cat” a 2007 AQHA Sorrel stallion came loaded with promise.

Just a weanling, the top prospect brought $8,500 and sold to Allen Munger, Brockway, MT.

Score, rate, and face, he’d been hauled to rodeos, jackpots, USTRC and Wrangler ropings, and Hip 118 “Tammy Tuff Skipper” a 96 AQHA Sorrel Gelding offered by Turner Performance Horses, Victor, MT was a hauled and won on head horse.

The quiet natured, handsome gelding brought $6,200 was also a 2D barrel horse and sold to Jolene Graf, Burlington, ND.

Red roan and ready to rope, Hip 25 “Wondo Hanabar” a 98 AQHA gelding consigned by Brandon Marlin, Cozad, NE was a finished head horse standing 16.3 hands.
